Battery Usage and Scooter Idea

by Frank
(Mount Albert, ON)

Q.My wife and I are recent rv'ers, with a Roadtrek 190 P and we also bought it used ...it came with no generator. We've registered on boondockerswelcome.com and used it twice very happily, BUT I've been getting paranoid about boondocking and running out of battery power,... so, we're looking into buying a generator, installing solar panels etc. etc. All very expensive options.

Your website has been so reassuring that, with care, we can boondock for 2, 3, or 4 nights on our auxiliary batteries. Thanks so much for all the valuable information. Love the link to the inflatable boat.

By the way, we've got a small scooter, 125 cc gas powered which we use to 'toodle' around when we arrive at camping locations. It fits on a specially designed hitch and rides there nicely. It's fun and very economical. Might be something to include in the 'affordable adventure' links?

Hi Frank - Definitely a great idea!
As it happens we're also looking for the same thing - maybe something a little more "off road" that is road-legal but also could handle some off-road exploration in areas where we need higher clearance than the Roadtrek offers.

I'd love to hear more about the hitch you chose, where you purchased it, and if it lowers or swings to still allow fairly easy access to the back door of the RV.
