One thing you can say about New Mexico: Its inhabitants are not afraid of color! Last week we walked the historic districts in Truth or Consequences and Silver City - two smallish cities. Here's just a snippet of the fun and fanciful street scenes:
Of course, walking around cities makes us thirsty. Little Toad Creek Brewery and Distillery in Silver City had come highly recommended and for good reason. It only seemed fitting to order up a colorful variety of beers - two flights worth! Yummmmmy! The food and prices were excellent, too.
A couple of things to point out: It was difficult to choose which photos to post. We didn't have to walk out of our way - at all - to find these and many more examples of colorful expression. Walking those few historic streets doesn't make us an expert but we did note big difference between these two cities. T or C (as it's affectionately known by locals) seems to be suffering from the effects of the economic downturn. Silver City, on the other hand, appears to have an active-lifestyle and vibrant downtown core. It has what I'd call "a great vibe". I think I could live there. And what about the city names? Silver City seems normal enough but, Truth or Consequences? Seriously? Any city that will vote to change its name just to be the location for a live taping of a game show, now THAT city must have some colorful characters. We didn't meet any locals but I'm pretty sure, all the color isn't conentrated in the streetscapes.
