Twenty years ago I owned a VW Vanagon. I found that I could park it mostly anywhere as long as I did not raise the roof. I parked mostly at all-night restaurants where I could get a cheap breakfast and use their wash rooms to clean up in the morning. I was never asked to move, and I think it was because "nobody saw me". I blended in.
One night I was parked in a bowling alley parking lot. A group of guys came out to get in their cars and had a conversation. One guy was leaning against my van. Never once did they make a comment wondering if anybody was in the camper van.
Other places were park-and-ride lots. Cars are left there all night, so I fit in.
