We just went there this past Monday May 18 after reading your write up in RV Boondocking in New Mexico.
We arrived at the gate around 8:30am and were the second vehicle in the lot. By the time we hiked out around 9:30 there was pretty much a constant stream of people hiking up. Good advice is to get there early if you want some solitude.
An absolutely wonderful hike. Very nice narrow slot canyon on the way up and not too difficult to get the great views.

It's actually a National Monument by: Marianne
It's a National Monument, and was established as such fairly recently (by Bill Clinton in 2001) so maybe that's why you hadn't heard of it. As someone pointed out, the park is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, which seems to be the case with a lot of newer parks and monuments. Not sure why....I suspect it has something to do with the restrictions on use of the land - stricter if it were to be managed by the National Park Service. If anyone knows more about the distinction and possible reasons, please share your knowledge.
It certainly is a jewel! We noticed a significant increase in visitation from our last visit (7 years ago) at the same time of year. So I think the word is out!
