Especially useful for pasta - Google "thermos cooking" for cooking rice/beans/grains with minimal water and energy. Need a quality stainless steel thermos, wide mouth, like Stanley or Thermos brand.
For pasta, boil water, preheat thermos. I bring that water back to a boil, then place pasta in large wide-mouth thermos with newly boiled water for same time as specified for boiling the pasta. (Allow room for pasta to expand, don't fill to the top). Place thermos on side and roll about occasionally while warming sauce or setting table or what have you. When draining the cooked pasta, save the boiling water for dishwashing.
