Visible phones
by: JBK

Visible phone hotspot, unlimited for $40/mo. Uses Verizon network and in our 6700 mile cg to trip this summer, 35 camp spots, we had a weak signal in two commercial cg. Even boondocking we had a good signal.

The big limit is that you can only connect one device to the phone but theoretically you can use a travel router to expand that. I haven't gotten it to work yet tho. You have to use a phone from their approved list, they will send you a SIM if you have such a phone or sell you a phone.

I have used almost 50GB in a month. That is an occasional movie but mostly browsing and email.

Connecting to internet
by: Marianne

We use the data that's part of our cell phone plan and can connect the laptop to that. Not cheap but reliable and secure. Free wifi is available at most libraries and a lot of fast food outlets and other businesses, so we often take advantage of that, when it's convenient. Would not recommend that you do any banking or other secure transactions on those, though.
